At Accord, we believe it is important to give back, whether that be by raising money or providing resource to have a positive impact on a charity close to our hearts. We are, therefore, very proud to announce that our new charity partner for the year ahead is Children with Cancer UK.
Children with Cancer UK was founded by the O’Gorman family following the tragic loss of brother and sister Paul and Jean O’Gorman, who both fell victim to cancer within nine months of each other. Their final wish - to help other children suffering from cancer - inspired their parents to begin fundraising. In 1988, the charity was officially inaugurated by Princess Diana, who continued to work closely with the organisation for the remainder of her life. Since then, Children with Cancer UK has grown to become one of the UK’s leading national children’s charities. To date, they have raised £200 million, funding research into cancer prevention and treatments, as well as providing crucial support for childhood cancer sufferers and their families.
We have lots of exciting fundraising events planned already for the coming months. On 6th May, 27 members of team Accord will be taking part in the 2017 Dirty Weekend Rat Race, a gruelling 13-mile long assault course with over 150 obstacles (including the world’s longest monkey bars!). A quiz night, virtual bike ride and bake off competitions have also been planned.
Accord’s CEO, Sally Winfield, said “Children with Cancer UK do vital work for childhood cancer sufferers and the contribution they make towards the fight against cancer is inspiring to say the least. We feel proud and privileged to support this important charity and are committed to raising as much money as possible throughout the year.”
Francesca Borrelli, Corporate Account Manager at Children with Cancer UK, said “We are delighted that Accord have chosen Children with Cancer UK as their charity partner for 2017. It is set to be a very exciting partnership and we look forward to supporting both the company and staff fundraising initiatives. On behalf of us all at the charity and, more importantly, the children who will benefit - thank you very much for your support”.
