Since January, Accord has been releasing weekly Travel Trends updates in association with market research specialists GfK. Comparing the latest year-on-year search, booking and website traffic data, this week’s infographic covers the week ending 3rd February 2018, and also includes a monthly review of all the data collected so far in 2018.
Tour package bookings have once again declined year-on-year, falling by 7% over the past week. This has been a recurring trend throughout January 2018, with total tour packages decreasing by an average of 11% compared to January 2017. In contrast, Hitwise data has revealed a 15.2% increase in searches for escorted tours, demonstrating that market interest is there.
This week, holiday parks and holiday cottages have both experienced a huge growth in search enquiries, which is particularly promising for domestic travel organisations. In terms of international destinations, however, this month’s biggest winner has been Turkey, which has grown by 119% year-on-year this January. Egypt has also shown a notable increase in popularity, with passenger numbers rising by 56% year-on-year.
